With palm trees swaying overhead and a neutral color palette accented with sea green tiles and woven lampshades, it’s hard not to do a double-take when sitting down on the terrace at Villa Malfi in Lutry. As condensation builds on your Aperol Spritz, you take a look around and remind yourself that indeed, you’re sitting in Lutry Port, and not on the Mediterranean – but damn, doesn’t it feel good to be fooled?
Brought to us by some of the same team members behind Un Po’ di Più, Loxton, and Le Pointu, it’s no surprise that the vibe at Villa Malfi in Lutry is fresh, the menu playful, and the décor on point. Though fans of Un Po’ di Più may find several similarities between the two restaurants (including some of the menu items, only with different names), there is a clear distinction in terms of the ambiance given that this is a lakeside spot. Diners don swimsuits and sun hats, families and small children have space to explore, and the views of the lake and mountains are tough to beat.
The restaurant itself is expansive, with numerous tables on the front and side terrace (try to snag the hammock for a little post-lunch siesta), plus an interior with sliding doors or windows that have the ability to open fully allowing the fresh breeze to visit as you dine. Though the number of covers is quite large, it’s still wise to reserve, as this is a lakefront spot coveted by many and tables fill up fast. If you’re just passing by and want an apéro, they have tables on the quai that are open and not necessary to reserve.
TLG Tip: The price tag may be steeper than other menu items, but the Lob’Star – a grilled half lobster with perfectly al dente pasta and cherry tomatoes – transports you to the seaside with every bite. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Bruschetta Nduja with creamy burrata and artichokes, as well as the Neopolitan pizza that had airy and doughy crust cooked to perfection in their wood-fire oven.
