If you're looking for an intimate spot serving authentic Korean cuisine in Lausanne, Sopoong should be at the top of your list. The name itself means "picnic" in Korean, a nod to the homemade meals Rosine, the owner, enjoyed from her mother, Nami, growing up. This cozy eatery may be small, with just three tables and a counter, but its flavors are bold and comforting.
We arrived just before noon and had our pick of seats, but within minutes, the place was packed—a testament to how beloved this new spot is by locals. The menu offers traditional Korean dishes like bibimbap, filled with fresh veggies, savory marinated meats, and a perfectly fried egg on top. Other highlights include the gimbap (Korean sushi rolls) and the bento-style dosirak, each prepared with care and authentic flavors. But perhaps our favorite was the Dolsobibimbap with beef served on a hot stone to caramelise and crisp up the rice underneath.
Rosine and her mother infuse every dish with love and tradition, making it feel like you're indulging in one of those cherished picnic meals they once shared. It’s a quick escape to Seoul right in the heart of Lausanne, perfect for a casual lunch or a quick takeaway when you're craving something flavorful and fulfilling.
Don't miss the veggie pancakes or the refreshing homemade kimchi—each bite tells a story of family, tradition, and the simple joys of sharing a meal. Whether you're a Korean food aficionado or new to the cuisine, Sopoong offers an inviting, down-to-earth experience that will have you coming back for more.
Make sure to arrive early, though—this hidden gem fills up fast!
