Kaaké: Lebanese Street Food on Rue du Midi

Lausanne just got a little more flavorful. At Rue du Midi 14, Kaaké – La Galette Libanaise has opened its doors, introducing the city to the warm, sesame-studded bread that fuels the streets of Lebanon.

Behind the counter is Chef Toni Chidiac (from Taole), who set out to bring this humble but beloved staple to Switzerland. Each kaak is baked fresh, torn open, and filled with ingredients that range from classic za’atar to heartier, modern combinations including chicken or lamb. The result is something both comforting and novel: the kind of food you can eat on the go but will want to linger over.

Kaaké doesn’t try to reinvent Lausanne’s dining scene, it simply adds a missing note. It’s unfussy, honest, and built around one idea done really well. In a city where quick lunch often means a sad sandwich or a grocery store salad, having an option that’s handmade and baked in an open oven daily, while being rooted in tradition, feels like a small but meaningful upgrade.

Whether you’re grabbing one between errands or bringing friends along for a casual bite, Kaaké offers a reminder that street food—done with care—can be as memorable as a long, sit-down meal.
