A Day in Lutry: What to Do, Eat & See

May 16, 2025

It’s easy to take Lutry for granted. You walk these cobbled streets without a second thought, nod to the lake as you pass, maybe glance at the vineyards climbing the hillside—and then you carry on with your day. But Lutry isn’t just a backdrop to everyday life. It’s a place worth slowing down for, worth seeing again—this time, with intention. Here's how we'd spend our day to the fullest in Lutry:

Morning: Coffee and Cobblestones

Begin your day with a proper coffee from one of Lutry’s small but mighty cafés. Rush Coffee serves specialty brews that rival any city spot, while La Buvette de la Plage pairs a good espresso with sweeping lake views. Prefer something cozy and tucked away (and kid friendly)? Café Ozarts in the old town offers just that, or swing by the local institution Moutarlier for a buttery pastry or decadent madeleine alongside your morning dose of caffeine.

Coffee in hand, meander through the old town. Look up at the weathered shutters, notice the hidden courtyards, and let yourself get a little lost. Lutry’s quiet beauty is easy to miss when you’re rushing—but it rewards those who linger.

Midday: Wine O’Clock

Before you think about lunch, consider stopping for a midday tasting. This is wine country, after all, and "supporting local" sometimes comes in a glass.

Head to the Caveau des Vignerons de Lutry, a warm and welcoming spot run by the winemakers themselves. For something with a little more rhythm, Caveau du Singe Vert blends local wines with live jazz performances in the evenings. You could also venture slightly up into the hills to Domaine Paschoud or Terres de Lavaux, both offering a beautiful introduction to the region’s varietals. Feeling ambitious? Make the scenic climb to Domaine du Daley, Switzerland’s oldest commercial vineyard, where the views stretch across Lac Léman and beyond.

Lunch: Lakeside or Village Charm

After all that wine (or in preparation for more), lunch beckons. Lutry’s dining scene offers plenty of options, depending on your mood.

For a sit-down meal in the heart of the village, Restaurant La Tour plates up seasonal dishes with local flair. By the water, Buvette de la Plage and Villa Malfi serve relaxed meals where the views are part of the experience. La Terrasse is another favorite for those seeking a sunny spot. And if it’s a casual burger you crave, Le NonStop delivers, Route 66-themed décor included.

Other beloved stops: Café de la Poste for a brasserie feel, Le Rivage for its reliable classics, Y Grec for a contemporary touch, and Chez Antoine for unfussy, welcoming service.

Afternoon: Ice Cream, Vineyards, and Boutiques

No visit to Lutry is complete without a scoop of ice cream by the port—no kids necessary as an excuse. Cone in hand, wander along the promenade before turning inland toward the vineyards.

The terraced slopes of Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are as much a part of Lutry’s identity as the lake itself. Take your time weaving between the vines, pausing often to admire the way the sun hits the water, or the tiny villages clinging to the hillsides. It's a view so good that people fly across oceans to see it—and you’re lucky enough to have it right here.

After the vineyards, if you're still craving a little adventure, look to the water. Local legend John of Following John runs a beloved outdoor stand by the buvette, offering everything from kayak discovery tours to boat rentals and kids' camps on the lake. Whether you're looking to dip your toes in or set sail for a few hours, John’s your guy—and part of what makes Lutry feel like a true community.

Back in town, resist the urge to rush home. Duck into Route des Épices for a world of spices packed into a charming shop, admire handcrafted jewelry at Chloé Noa, pick up a bouquet at La Bouquetterie, or browse natural products at Lutry Nature. CKLZ, a small boutique known for its curated selection, is also worth a detour.

Sunset: Apéritif by the Lake

As the afternoon fades, head toward Les Copains d’Abord. This laid-back bar, perfectly perched on the lakeside, is ideal for a sunset apéritif. Order a glass of rosé, snag a table outside, and watch as the light softens over Lac Léman.

Before you end your day, we challenge you: try a café you've never entered before. Say more than "salut" to your neighbor. Pretend you’re seeing Lutry for the very first time.

Because this isn’t just where we live—it’s where we get to live. Let’s enjoy it like we mean it.
