Tucked in the lively Maupas neighbourhood, La Station is one of those rare places that feels as good as it tastes. By day, it’s La Cantine: a social, canteen-style lunch spot built on generosity. By night, it transforms into La Station: a playground of inventive plates, local wines, and surprising combinations that remind you why dining out should always feel a little bit fun.
At lunchtime, the focus is on accessibility and community. In partnership with the local association L’Éveil, La Cantine offers a hearty vegetarian meal to workers for just 5 CHF—a collaboration that supports social and professional reintegration while giving everyone a seat at the table. For everyone else, the daily menu (entrée, plat, dessert) rings in at a modest 16 CHF, proof that good food doesn’t have to come with a high price tag.

When the lights dim, Chef Lucas Lepoutre and his team shift gears. The evening menu is concise yet daring—each small plate a little surprise. Think Brillat-Savarin with mushrooms, Sichuan pepper, and grapes, or a Thai-style beef tartare enriched with bone marrow and bisque (one of the best we’ve had in Lausanne, full stop).

Even the cocktails play along: the Pho’cktail M42—a fragrant, savory mix of gin, coriander, Cointreau, pho syrup, fish sauce, chili, and lime—may just be the best cocktail we’ve ever tasted in this city.

Inside, the old service-station setting hums with character. It’s relaxed but buzzing, with the kind of energy that makes you linger long after the last sip. And maybe that’s what sets La Station apart: it runs on heart as much as on creativity.
