The Magic Pass is an annual ticket that offers access to 52 winter destinations and 23 summer destinations close to Lausanne. Offering unlimited access to lifts and the option to add thermal baths and pooltime to your pass, the Magic Pass provides options to enjoy the outdoors fully without thinking about purchasing lift tickets each and every time.
The traditional model for ski resorts has been selling half-day/day passes and on occasions multi-day passes for weekends and holidays. Only elite chalet dwellers and jetsetters had season passes, causing envy among us mortals. This is now history; in 2017 several Swiss resorts grouped together to offer an all-inclusive season pass. This pass now opens up the possibility for all of us to ski at a different resort almost every weekend at a reasonable price.
An unbeatable way to explore the mountains around Lausanne and to uncover smaller resorts off the beaten track, the Magic Pass is something to consider if you’re someone who enjoys the outdoors. From glacier skiing surrounded by towering 4000 meters peaks in Saas-Fee to mellow Jura slopes in Crête-du-Puy and Vallée de Joux, there’s something for everyone. In the summer, bring your mountain bike to cruise down to catch the train back from the main Lausanne-Visp line.
In the winter you can expect meticulously groomed pistes and demanding off-piste runs followed by the obligatory fondue moitié-moitié accompanied by local wines. In the summer, the mountains are a pleasant escape from the canicule. With higher altitude, the air temperature drops several degrees and even the hottest summer day can become fresh.
Many of the resorts are within an hour drive from Lausanne, and some are easily reachable by public transport. Early bird Magic Passes are sold for 399 CHF in the spring prior, prices then rise to the full price of 899 CHF. There are additional perks for the pass holders which can be found on the site, as well as the possibility to add a pool & spa option for extra pampering. This year, the Magic Pass will extend to the Bernese Oberland, Haut-Valais, and France.
