One of our favorite parts of being The Lausanne Guide is that it’s basically our job to find the coolest, cutest, most delectable spots in town. While we wish this could be our full-time job, we know the reality of making a living drinking chai lattes and eating Instagrammable food is just out of the realm of possibility…for now 😉
But we digress.
When our good friend Fabio Marco (if you missed our Meet the Makers on him, you’ve got to check it out) told us about a new project he was working on, we knew it had to be visited stat. Only open for a bit under 3 weeks, Tramezzini seemed to already have its share of regulars…and we are strongly considering becoming one of them.
The two owners, Sarah Zorzetto and Alejandra Arana Sanchez, have a similar story to many establishments we know and love. Coming from a professional world that had lost its spark, they decided to open a space that they could pour their heart into. It’s passion projects like these that turn a café into a much more than a café–it’s a result of risk, of love, of paying attention to the small details, and most importantly, welcoming each and every customer as if they are coming into your home. This is what it’s like to walk into Tramezzini Bar.
Everything at Tramezzini is home-made. From Fabio Marco’s coffee, to the pastries and cakes, to the Venetian sandwiches–everything is fresh and seasonal and made with love from scratch. The decor is warm with a touch of whimsical. Hand-painted details line the walls (the Toucan wall is a fave!), and even the bathroom tiles–the large windows allow the light to flood in, giving the whole space an airy and cozy feel.
And of course, Fabio Marco’s touch is everywhere (cause he’s not just a coffee guru, he’s also a master woodworker). From the iron and wood combinations found next to the bar, to the very bar itself–we are in awe of his ability to transform a space into something functional and aesthetically beautiful (you should see the before and after photos!).
Currently it’s a perfect space for a morning coffee or dirty chai (a mix of spicy chai and espresso…seriously, life-changing), a place to study or work, or a wonderful spot for a light lunch or afternoon slice of home-made cake. But there are rumors it may also turn into a place for apéro and evening drinks later this year. Regardless, Tramezzini Bar is a spot worth checking out. It reminds us of how lovely our little town of Lausanne really is.
