Images Vevey was the first open-air photography festival in Switzerland, and takes place every two years in September. This year marks the festival’s 2022 biennial, bringing photography and installations to the public in Vevey, absolutely free of charge.
The Festival Images in Vevey is a beautiful example of art intersecting real life – mosey the charming cobblestoned streets of Vevey and you’ll notice large photographs decorating the streets. Walk along the quai and while you admire the mountains and lake, you can find artwork juxtaposing with its natural backdrop. The festival encourages onlookers to approach the town differently – to interact with various parts of the city via the artwork and installations.
For over three weeks, the town of Vevey will be displaying 50 custom-made photography projects for visitors to explore. These artists come from all over the world and have joined together to focus on the theme ‘Together. La vie ensemble.’
There’s also a new permanent art space this year called L’Appartement. Formally serving as railway workers’ housing at Vevey train station, it’s now a gallery space that can be visited regularly. This year for the Espace Images Vevey festival, four internationally renowned artists will be showcased and the entire front of the building will be covered in a colossal photograph taken by Thomas Struth of the Milan Cathedral.
You have until the 25th of September to visit the festival but can also enjoy it long term with its newly released coffee table photography books via their online shop.
