Crispy Honey, Garlic & Sriracha Chicken

Or alternatively titled, “When you can’t make it to Chez Xu”
We found this recipe on Pinterest a few weeks ago and looked too-good-to-be-true-easy. Plus it was labeled as a “healthy alternative” to other breaded Chinese-style recipes. Easy and healthier? Psh, we’ll see about that.

Turns out they weren’t lying. This recipe may take a bit of time to organize the few ingredients (honestly, the dipping of each little piece of chicken was the most time-consuming), but it’s super simple and the chicken comes out of the oven crispy on the outside, and moist on in the inside. Thanks to Damn Delicious for the recipe! We made a few revisions after tasting the first batch:
What You’ll Need:
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup Panko (can be found at any Japanese store…we went to Uchitomi)


For the Honey, Garlic, & Sriracha Sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey, or more, to taste (less is more here…we first added a 1/4 cup and it was WAY too sweet still…so maybe just add little spoonfuls and taste)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha, optional (we love spicy, but we added only 1/2 a tablespoon and it was plenty hot)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
What You’ll Do:


  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Lightly oil a 9×13 baking dish or coat with nonstick spray (or we just used parchment paper and it worked great!).
  • Season chicken with salt and pepper, to taste. Working in batches, dip chicken into eggs, then dredge in Panko, pressing to coat.
  • Add chicken to prepared baking dish. Place into oven and bake until golden brown and crisp, about 15-20 minutes.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium high heat, combine honey, garlic, soy sauce and Sriracha, if using. In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and 1/3 cup water. Stir mixture into the saucepan until thickened, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in chicken and gently toss to combine.
  • Serve immediately, garnished with green onions, sesame seeds, and a side of edamame!
